Fixing the Error 0×80070091 The directory is not empty
Microsoft Windows user would face with the dreaded “Error 0×80070091 The directory is not empty” problem often. This is caused by either a process accessing the folder or corrupted file structure. There are couple of suggest solution to the issue.
Please bear in either one of this method would work or neither ! So please backup your files and registry if you wished to proceed !
Method 1: Delete the file/folder from the ‘Safe Mode’
- Restart your computer if it is powered on.
- Tap the F8 key after your computer initially powers on.
- Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu you can stop tapping.
- Select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter.
- Logon to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges.
Method 2: Take ownership of the file/folder
- Right click on the Folder that you are trying to delete
- Click on “Properties” on the right click menu.
- Click on “Security” tab.
- Click on “Advanced” button at the bottom.
- In Advanced Security Settings dialog window, click on “Owner” tab.
- To take ownership of the object, click on the Edit button. Give permission to UAC. Then highlight the user name in the “Change owner to” box that you want to assign as the owner for the object. Click “OK” to finish the process.
- Back in Advanced Security Settings window, you will see the current owner has changed to the user you just selected.
- Click “OK” button to exit this window.
Method 3: Delete the file/folder using the application Unlocker
- Download the application Unlocker from here [LINK]
- After installing Unlocker, right click on the file/folder and it will show you whether any process is accessing the it. You can chose to “No Action”,”Delete”,”Rename”,”Move”.
