We all have encounter this problem of file corrupted or accidentally deleted. To recover the file is easy IF you have Microsoft Shadow Copy feature enable. Shadow Copy is also refer as Volume Snapshot Service or Volume Shadow Copy Service or VSS. It is a technology in Microsoft Windows which taking manual or automatic backup copies or snapshots of data, even if it has a lock, on a specific volume at a specific point in time over regular intervals.
To restore the file using Shadow Copy :
- Right-click the file or folder, and then Properties
- The you will see the “Previous Versions” tab
- Under the “Previous Versions” tab, you’ll see a list of available previous versions of the file or folder.
- There is 3 options : View, Copy, Restore
*** DO NOT use the “Restore” option as the file or folder will replace the current version on your computer, and the replacement CANNOT be undone !
Instead, use “View” and another explorer window will open with the backup files. (Recommended)
